Canada snapshot
Canada historical snapshot covers September 2024–August 2026 only. Source: U.S. Census Bureau monthly merchandise files. This fixed historical snapshot does not promise monthly Canada updates.
Imports use GEN_VAL_MO, general imports at customs value. Exports use ALL_VAL_MO, domestic plus foreign exports at reported FAS value; Census derives exports to Canada from Canadian import data. Values are nominal USD, not seasonally adjusted.
Category shares use the all-goods totals from the same captured files as their product values, separately for imports and exports. These ten selected categories per direction cover a subset of trade. Statistical categories remain in observed totals but have no ordinary-product comparisons.
Currently revised country totals can differ from this captured collection; it has no uniform or latest-revised claim. Capture times describe saved files, not observation revision dates. Historical audit failures remain failed. Local acceptance applies to the fixed snapshot and qualified comparisons; the page reuses previously reviewed sources without a fresh source audit.
Published release information
Each published profile uses its own validated release. A failed refresh retains the last validated release and its date. Revision counts compare records with the previous retained release.
Roasted coffee (HS 090121)
Official description: COFFEE, ROASTED, NOT DECAFFEINATED
These pages describe U.S. goods trade in current U.S. dollars, without seasonal adjustment. Imports use general import customs value (GEN_VAL_MO). Exports use total export value (ALL_VAL_MO), including domestic goods and re-exports. These figures have a different scope and basis from the national goods and services headline.
Products and partner countries
Products use six-digit Harmonized System categories. The official description lets you check the match. World totals come directly from the source; they are never calculated by adding overlapping country groups. Partner selections contain individual countries, excluding world totals and regional groupings.
Comparisons and shares
Year-over-year compares a month with the same month in the previous year. Trailing twelve months includes twelve consecutive calendar months and is compared with the preceding twelve months. Dollar changes accompany percentage changes. A zero or unavailable baseline has no percentage-growth value. A country share is its share of U.S. imports or exports for this product over the same complete twelve months. It is not a measure of worldwide demand or profitability.
Country changes
“What changed?” compares the latest complete twelve-month period with the preceding twelve months for the selected trade direction. Each ranking shows up to ten increases and ten decreases, ordered by dollar change or change in the country’s share of U.S. trade for this product. Share changes use percentage points: a rise from 20% to 25% is +5 percentage points. Countries with an unavailable comparison or no change in the selected measure are excluded and counted. Ties are ordered by country name, then code. Chart country selections and the history window do not change these rankings.
Product changes
The pilot product comparison ranks reviewed, published products by changes in their official U.S. totals over the latest twelve months versus the preceding twelve months, separately for imports and exports. Its comparison month is the newest published reporting month; products with older releases are excluded with their own reporting month stated. Incomplete or classification-incompatible comparisons are excluded. Rankings show up to ten increases and ten decreases, with unchanged products counted separately.
Percentage-growth rankings require at least $10 million in the preceding twelve months. This initial editorial threshold limits very small baselines; dollar rankings can include a reported zero prior value, with growth unavailable. Ties use product name, then HS code. The page covers only the listed pilot products and does not establish nationwide product rankings or profitability. Its browser-generated CSV contains the displayed rankings, common periods, applied threshold, exclusion counts and each product’s source details.
Selected country comparisons
The profile’s national headline cards always show the U.S. total. A separate selected-country summary follows the chosen partners and trade direction, in selection order. Its default compares the latest twelve months with the preceding twelve months. “Latest month” compares the reporting month with the same month one year earlier, using each matching month’s official U.S. total for country shares. Monthly comparisons can be available even when other missing months make an annual comparison unavailable. Reported monthly amounts remain visible across classification boundaries, while incompatible or unverified classifications withhold their changes. Zero or unavailable denominators have no shares.
The chart history window and change-ranking controls do not alter the selected comparison period. Copied profile links retain this period choice; older links use the annual default. The selected-country CSV includes the period type, both matching U.S. denominators, available amounts and comparisons, periods and source details. Unchanged and incomplete selected countries remain included.
Missing data and classifications
Missing and suppressed observations stay unavailable and never become zero. A missing monthly response does not prove there was no trade. Incomplete twelve-month windows have no total or share. Classification changes and unverified continuity break chart lines; comparisons spanning incompatible or unverified intervals are unavailable. A five-year view may show shorter available history, with its actual dates stated.
Estimated duties
This section applies to U.S. imports only and follows the profile’s selected partner countries. With none selected, it uses the official national total. Each product’s retained duty coverage is stated in its release information above. Monthly calculated duties use CAL_DUT_MO; the imports-for-consumption denominator uses CON_VAL_MO. “Calculated duties as share of import value” is 100 × calculated duties ÷ consumption value for the same product, geography and month. A rolling share divides the sums for the same twelve months; it never averages monthly percentages or uses general import value.
The latest month compares with the matching month one year earlier. Rolling comparisons require both complete twelve-month periods. Missing or suppressed amounts, unavailable reporting coverage, and incompatible or unverified classification periods withhold comparisons. Available reported dollars remain visible. A zero or missing consumption denominator has no duty share; a zero prior duty amount has no percentage growth. Duty-share changes use percentage points.
Rate-provision codes 70 and 79 report dutiable value without calculating duties. Each displayed period includes the affected dutiable value and its share of total dutiable value (DUT_VAL_MO). Positive affected amounts qualify reported comparisons; an incomplete breakdown cannot establish zero affected value. Reported zero duties do not prove duty-free imports. Calculated duties can differ from amounts actually paid, exclude antidumping and countervailing duties, and can be understated when no duty is calculated. Import mix and reporting coverage can change the duty share alongside tariff changes.
The estimated duties CSV is generated in the browser and reproduces the selected monthly and rolling records, matching measures and periods, available changes, value statuses, coverage qualifications and source provenance. Duties remain separate from the merchandise observations and their revision history.
Revisions and downloads
Each import refreshes retained history. Changed observations are recorded against the previous release. Chart downloads reproduce the current direction, selected countries and window. The changes CSV reproduces the displayed increase and decrease rankings for the selected direction and ranking measure. These CSVs include units, source, periods, retrieval date and processing version. An unavailable calculation has a blank CSV value. Dollar values are original Census observations; comparisons are calculations by US Trade Tracker.
